SHAHJAHANPUR: Deceased NRI Sukhjeet Singh's wife, who is allegedly an accomplice in the murder, on Sunday was caught on camera saying that she had asked for divorce but her husband had refused to sign the papers. Ramandeep Kaur was heard saying that she plans to marry Gurpreet alias Miththu Singh after getting bail. There was no regret on the faces of both the accused. Meanwhile, accused Miththu said that he is feeling bad now.

Sukhjeet Singh was brutally killed inside his house on Thursday night. Investigation revealed that he was killed by his wife and his close friend Miththu. Accused Miththu was trying to flee the country and even took the boarding pass at the airport in Delhi. However, a phone call at the last minute by Shahjahanpur superintendent of police Manoj Kumar to the airport authorities put brakes on his journey. The security officials detained Miththu at the airport 30 minutes before his flight's scheduled departure. Later, the Shahjahanpur crime branch team took the custody of Miththu and brought him to Shahjahanpur. Police claimed to have recovered the murder weapons.

After coming to know that Miththu has been arrested, Ramandeep also admitted before cops that she was a party to the crime. She told police that she added sleeping pills while preparing dinner and after having food everyone, barring her, in the house fell in deep sleep. The dogs were also given sleeping pills. Around midnight, Ramandeep informed Miththu to come inside and together they killed Sukhjeet using a hammer and a sickle.

Relatives of Sukhjeet believe that someone else had also helped Miththu commit the crime. Police have traced the vehicle that was hired by Miththu to come to Shahjahanpur from Basantapur village in Banda on Thursday night. The name of the driver is not included in the FIR. The same driver dropped him at Shahjahanpur railway station on Thursday midnight.

When TOI tried to speak to Ramandeep Kaur, she just smiled. However, a video shows her talking to police officials in which she was heard saying, "Mere divorce mangne par woh menu bolya ke mai tenu nahi chadd sakda (when I asked for divorce, he said that 'I cannot leave you')".

There was no regret on her face and she seemed calm while answering the questions posed by police officials. She also talked about her plans to marry Miththu after getting bail.

Superintendent of police Manoj Kumar said, "It was a planned murder and both the accused have admitted that they have killed NRI Sukhjeet Singh. His wife, Ramandeep Kaur, told us that she wanted to get divorce from Sukhjeet but he refused to sign the divorce papers."

"We had suspected that the wife had a hand in the murder of Sukhjeet. And the case has become clear after initial investigation. The house was locked from inside and no one could have entered it without the help of someone from the family. We received the information about a suspect, Miththu, who was supposed to leave India on August 31, but he stayed back. When we checked the call details, we found that Miththu was continuously in touch with Ramandeep. Even his mobile location confirmed that he was in Shahjahanpur on September 1. Later, we managed to catch Miththu at IGI Airport in Delhi, 30 minutes before his flight was to leave for Dubai.

We have informed the British high commission about the arrest of Ramandeep as she is a British citizen. Details of the case have also been sent to the home minister's office," said the SP.
